Peppers of Key West, Florida

I thought I knew everything there is to know about Hot sauce, everyone who knows me knows I like to add a kick of pepper in everything i eat, from Jamaican scotch bonnet to habanero. So I got a tip from a friend who told me if spicy stuff is your thing, then you should head down to Peppers of Key west.

It didn't take long for me to get my bags packed and head south to Miami then catch a ride straight to the keys. I didn't know much about Key West, all i knew was that Ernest Hemingway had a home there and the famous Duval street. When i got to Peppers it felt like heaven but my taste buds were in hell with the array of hot sauces so hot that you only needed the sauce on the tip of a tooth pick to num your tongue. They offered a free tasting bar which gave customers a sense of what they were getting into. The sauces were not just extremely hot but they had funky names too like Dr. assburn or B & O Railroad Ghost Train Hot Sauce. I also learned the term Scoville scale or unit, which is actually a measure of the chemical in hot peppers that is responsible for their heat. For those who couldn't tolerate the heat, there is plenty of mild sauces since each sauce has their own heat scale from 0 to 10 and up. So I hope you add this place to your to do list next time you find yourself in the Keys.
